What's Next for AGX?
AGX 2026 Blended Format Conference
From Geographic Theory to Practice in the Age of AI
Conference theme: how geographic concepts, methods, and technologies underpin practical responses to contemporary social, environmental, economic, and infrastructural challenges. The conference emphasizes the continuing importance of spatial thinking, geographic expertise, and human judgment as artificial intelligence becomes more deeply integrated into research, policy, planning, and professional practice.
AGX 2026 will bring together researchers, practitioners, educators, students, and community partners to share theoretical advances, applied studies, technical innovations, and critical perspectives on the evolving relationship between geography and AI.
AGX 2026’s blended format combines the benefits of direct interaction with the accessibility of online participation. The conference will take place in two complementary parts:
Part I: In-Person Community Gathering
November 5–6, 2026; University of Pittsburgh; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
The in-person meeting will emphasize professional networking, collaboration, mentoring, workshops, discussion, and community. Registration for the in-person meeting also includes access to the online component of the conference.
Part II: Virtual Research Conference
November 12–13, 2026; Online
The virtual conference will provide an accessible forum for presenting research, applied projects, teaching innovations, technical developments, and professional experiences to an international audience. Registration for the online meeting also includes access to the in-person component of the conference.
A single registration provides access to both parts of the blended conference.

The Applied Geography Conference is now AGX.
The Applied Geography Conference ("AGC") is the premier annual venue for Applied Geography practitioners, researchers, and students to connect and learn. However, even with this status, the AGC board saw that there is much potential for our organization to have an even broader and stronger impact yet on the Applied Geography community. Revision of the image the AGC to AGX reflects our desire and ability to better serve the Applied Geography community through increased networking, advocacy, and mentoring opportunities.
Re-branding acknowledged the potential there was for AGC to do more and be more to serve you better. We are so excited to come back as a Community of Applied Geographers!
