AGX Mentoring Program
The AGX/Community of Applied Geographers Mentoring Program brings together individuals seeking to advance their academic and/or professional goals with individuals willing to share their knowledge and experience. Mentor-mentee relationships can be focused on short-term needs—preparing your first paper for publication—or longer-range goals—identifying, planning, and implementing skills and actions to advance your career goals.
Areas of focus include (but are not limited to):
Please consider applying as a mentee or a mentor.
Serving as a mentor provides an opportunity to help guide the next generation of applied geographers. Mentoring also offers an opportunity for personal growth—the mentor-mentee relationship is rarely a one-way street.
AGX/Community of Applied Geographers will provide materials and hold informational gathering to help mentors and mentees get off to a good start, maintain appropriate momentum, and reach the desired end goal.
Our future as applied geographers is in our hands. The AGX Mentoring Program is one step toward that future. We hope you will be part of it.
Join us at 6 pm EST/5 pm CST, Thursday, February 19, 2026, for a virtual discussion about plans for the program. Details will be posted on this site.

The Applied Geography Conference is now AGX.
The Applied Geography Conference ("AGC") is the premier annual venue for Applied Geography practitioners, researchers, and students to connect and learn. However, even with this status, the AGC board saw that there is much potential for our organization to have an even broader and stronger impact yet on the Applied Geography community. Revision of the image the AGC to AGX reflects our desire and ability to better serve the Applied Geography community through increased networking, advocacy, and mentoring opportunities.
Re-branding acknowledged the potential there was for AGC to do more and be more to serve you better. We are so excited to come back as a Community of Applied Geographers!
